Fiddlers Grove Woodcarvers

April 2021 Newsletter

Old Business:

1. We have been asked to participate in the following events in Granville, TN. Note: We were not invited to participate in the Moonshine and Cornbread Festival this year.

May 29, 2021 -- Heritage Day
October 2, 2021 -- Fall Celebration
For more information on Granville events, click here.

2. We were to begin having our monthly, full-membership meetings at the Town Hall, Fiddlers Grove beginning on Saturday, April 10, 2021 but that was cancelled so we could attend the Grand Opening in Granville on that day. We will begin our monthly meeting in Fiddlers Grove on Saturday, May 8th.

3. The North Arkansas Woodcarvers will host their 41st Woodcarving Show and Sale on May 1st and 2nd at the Baxter County Fairgrounds in Mountain Home, AR (SE of Branson and about 400 miles away). There are over 50 competitive categories to enter your woodcarvings and you can rent a table for $35 to sell your carvings. Click here for more information.

4. The Wilson County Fair will be held this year from August 12th to the 21st. Put these dates on your calendar since we always participate in the fair as Fiddlers Grove artisans. For more information on the fair, click here.

5. We will continue to have our Tuesday carving sessions at Butch Barnes' shop and Gene Graham's shop from 1:00pm to 4:00pm. I will send out and email with their address each week so you will know where it is. We also may meet at Fiddlers Grove occassionally.

6. Continue to have Deedee and Phil in your prayers. Deedee broke a bone in her foot which she indicated in not wanting the heal and Phil broke his arm.

New Business:

1. Four club members attended the Granville Grand Opening on April 10th -- Gene, Jon, Rich, and Josh. It rained all morning but cleared up in the afternoon. They changed the way they compensate us for being there. Previously, they gave each member $35 -- ostensibly for gas -- which we donated to the club to help defray the cost of the holiday dinner in December. Now they issue one check for $50 made out to the club. This is not a huge issue just less money for the club.

2. I received the following message from Gwen regarding the Neddy Jacobs day in June. Please let me know if you would like to attend -- I will need to get back to her soon. If they draw a good crowd, we may be able to sell some carvings. It will cost the club $17.50 (half the usual rate) for the space in a building or the pole barn.

I wanted to invite you to attend our fundraising event Neddy Jacobs Heritage Day on Saturday, June 5 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. We still have space for several vendors and I wanted you to have the opportunity to see if you were interested. Admission to the public is free. This is a juried show. In addition to having vendors sell their wares, we also are having genealogy, old fashion games, lots of food, and our first annual Outhouse Race. We believe having this new addition will not only be fun but will bring a lot of folks through the vendors to get to the race and give you a greater opportunity to sell, sell, sell. In order to qualify you must have 50% of your booth as hand-crafted items. The rest can be manufactured.

3. Woodcarving Seminars/Workshops this year -- let me know if you hear of any others so I can let all the members know.

Eureka Springs Woodcarving Rendezvous -- September 27 - October 8, 2021 (Eureka Springs, AR). A friend of mine called and indicated that he talked to someone at the school and she told him that the rendezvous was going to happen this year and they were planning on having it for two weeks! She also indicated that Harold Enlow would not be there -- I was hoping to carve with him one more time which is why my friend called. Click here for future information -- they only have the dates of the rendezvous now. Eureka Springs is about a 9 hour from Lebanon.

Buckeye Woodcarvers Roundup -- July 21-24, 2021 (Fletcher OH). It is held at the Poor Farmers Campground -- you can either camp there or stay in a hotel. The registration fee is $20 (which is dirt cheap!) and you can come and go as you please. I am told it is held outdoors and it appears that they have about 15 instructors. Fletcher is about 40 minutes north of Dayton (about 6 hours from Lebanon). Click here for complete information.
